About me

Hi, I'm Janette. Thank you for visiting my website.

Wanting to support and understand others has always been an important part of who I am. Throughout my life and career, I’ve found that people often need a space where they can simply be heard and understood without judgement. Listening with empathy and care is something that has always come naturally to me, and it is at the heart of the way I work.

Through my experience in both counselling and other professional roles, I bring a range of life skills and understanding into the therapy room. My aim is to offer a warm, genuine and human approach to counselling, where you can feel comfortable being yourself and talking openly about whatever may be on your mind. I believe that when people feel truly heard and supported, it can create the space needed for reflection, healing and personal growth.

My core training is in person-centred counselling. This means that I won’t tell you what you should do or give direct advice. Instead, I will walk alongside you as you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and that with the right support, people are often able to find their own clarity and direction.

Working together

Our work together is always flexible. Everyone’s needs are different, and therapy should feel supportive in a way that works for you. I’m always open to exploring what might feel most helpful, and if it feels right we can also look at coping strategies or ways to support emotional regulation. Above all, I aim to provide a safe, calm and confidential space where you can speak openly about the things that may feel difficult to share elsewhere.

Why counselling?

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You might be struggling with anxiety or low mood, navigating relationship difficulties, coping with grief or loss, facing life changes, experiencing challenges at work, or simply feeling unsure about your direction in life.

Whatever brings you to therapy, you will be met with understanding and compassion.

Getting started

At the beginning of our work together, we will talk about what you would like from therapy and how we can work in a way that feels comfortable for you.

We will also regularly check in about how things are going, making sure that our work continues to feel helpful and supportive.

Locations

I offer in-person sessions in private counselling rooms in Lancaster, along with online appointments.

A limited number of sessions are available from my home office near Kirkby Lonsdale. Both spaces provide a quiet and confidential environment where you can take the time you need to reflect, explore and be heard.

Fees

Sessions last 50–60 minutes and usually take place every other week to begin with, allowing you to move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Each session is £50.

I offer a small number of discounted spaces for students (10% off). Please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to find out more.

I also offer a free 30-minute introductory session. This is a gentle opportunity for us to meet, talk through what’s bringing you to counselling, and for you to ask any questions—so you can decide if it feels like the right fit for you.

If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. Sessions missed or cancelled with less notice will be charged in full.
